Series 3 Landy transfer case lever jumping out of high

I have just got my old beast running after a 12 year rest, engine goes great but when u let the clutch out the tranfer lever jumps out of Hi and just meshes, its only done 80,000 k from new most of these in Africa except for about 10,000 done here in Oz before she was parked for 12 years and I rescued her, anyone had the problem and or know of a fix, I could just bracket the lever to the firewall permenantly but that doesnt help if u need lo range, appreciate any help offered.

I'd firstly check there is nothing obstructing the lever going fully forward i.e. the rubber gaiter or similar from above then check the linkage underneath for obstructions. If you don't find anything then check the movement in linkage as it could be worn from constant shifting between high and low as it sounds like its seen some action!

Thanks for that, I did make some alterations to the firewall just to ensure the lever had plenty of room to move, I clouted it ith a hammer!, the body has been raised about 3 inches, the yellow knobbed lever which I have no idea about was lengthened albeit roughly theres no spring its held up by a rubber strap, I shall checl all the linkages, she has done some work shes been all over africa, journey started when she was 2, finished in 1989, taking in singapore and most of Australia, but she will do Oz again when I finish her
