Regrettably it looks like I'll have to sell my Defender 90, the good news is that one of the above will replace it!

This has come about as my 90 doesn't have enough seats or windows for us (van), MrsBee has got fedup squeezing into the centre seat as BabyBee's child seat occupies the passenger seat, we're also trying for BabyBee2 so I am now faced with the dilemma of having to get a Land Rover with space for two baby seats.

As my budget is going to be approx £3k, there doesn't seem to be much choice in 110 station wagons, although I have seen a V8 on autotrader, whereas the budget throws up plenty of discos and a fair few classics.

I've always preferred 'proper' land rovers so don't know much about the others and am after peoples thoughts on what to look for, which would be the most practical and as I'll be keeping it for a long time which will last longer (hard one I know). Thanks!

For £3k I'd look for (well, am looking for) a 300tdi Discovery personally. If you're a masochist then a very early RR P38 DSE Manual might be on the cards for £3k just.

Got to be a Disco, do you really want to be driving two sproggs and the Mrs around in a leaky loud CSW????

Daily driver for the school run here is a 1986 110 V8 with LPG, picked up for less than £3k biggrin - it is a 3rd car though so we have a more sensible family small estate (Alfa 156) and also my Cerb for longer/faster stuff. If it has to be used as more regular family trips and longer stuff then I would probably concede to a Disco/Rangy but it would be reluctantly.

Gotta be a decent Disco 300 for that money!

The 110 will be a shed, the Classic really does look dates now, the Disco will give you more comfort than both of them and there is so much choice now for that kinda lolly.

Enjoy!

yes I like them! boxedin

Thanks for the advice, A 300 Disco does seem to be the sensible option, I suppose. It'll be the 3rd car in our collection so as mileage won't be that high the V8 appeals more than the Tdi.

I think I'll avoid a P38, I'm not that brave! wobble

I was in a similar situation and chose a late (M plate) Classic with soft dash. For that money we found an immaculate one, like new inside. The vehicle just feels right, I enjoy it, whereas the 300 Disco I have from new .... something about it just grates, I'm not sure what it is but I just don't like it, never have and I guess after ten years never will. I hasten to add it has been very reliable but I never look forward to seeing it or driving it.

A 110 was the other option but I felt I needed to spend more money to get a nice one, whereas £3k will buy you the best Classic.

£3k will get you a great classic, a good Defender especially the TDI seems to hold its money more strongly than the Discos and Rangies, you could find an early P38 V8 with fairly low milage for that sort of money.

All the very good advice on here has put the discovery in first place with a Range Rover Classic a very close 2nd and the 110 in a distant 3rd.

So of course I've gone out and bought a ratty E reg 110 CSW, sorry! paperbag
But it's got a V8 cloud9
I pick it up tomorrow, so assuming it gets me home I'll post some pics!

All I need to do now is sell the 90......
