I'm considering getting one of these as a winter car to replace the TVR.

Now I'm fully aware of the slipped liner issue and electrical problems that can occur with these cars, but I'm wondering just how many owners have been affected by these issues. I know that people rarely post on forums how great everything is with their cars. It tends to be more problems and issues.....

So then, how many people on here have not had major issues with their p38s?

Cheers

(p.s. It will be a 1995/96 HSE I'd be looking at)

I've had no issues, and i only know of one other car that has. It's poor maintenance of the cooling system that causes 99% of slipped liners. So budget for a new radiator and viscous coupling and 'stat when you buy, if your'e worried. Late 96 and on models are considrered better electrically (you can tell them by the twin exhaust).
They're a great car and i'm gutted to have to sell mine.

Agree with all of that. I'd also budget for replacing/rebuilding the suspension air compressor asap unless the previous owner has done so recently.
Owned mine for four years and did preventative maintenance, it was a reliable and comfy wagon.

My Dads had his from new, looked after it - needed a new suspension compressor last year, but nothing major and she's just turned 150,000 miles.

His is the late '96 with the twin pipes.

Cheers for the responses. Any ideas how much a new rad and viscous coupling will set me back (supplied and fitted)?
