Series One and parabolic springs
Discussion
Hello,
I fitted a set of parabolic springs to my Dad's 88" Series One a while back and have only just got around to fitting the "correct" Pro-comp dampers. I tried to fit the front ones and found that the free length is much greater than the stock originals so the damper bottoms out before the axle hits the bump stop. I didn't try the rear ones as they were the wrong type (to suit 109" / RR rear). I did a bit of measuring and found:
Stock front: 16 1/4" free, 10 1/2" compressed
replacement: 21 1/4" free, 13 1/2" compressed Pro Comp part number 321546
Stock rear: 20" free, 11 3/4" compressed
So I can't really use the "front" replacements on the rear either.
I think I need to use 31750x front and 32050x rear - have any other PH'ers run into this problem?
I could start making brackets to move the chassis mounts but this is supposed to be a "bolt on" modification!

Hi. sounds like you have been supplied the incorrect shocks for both front and rear!
I did this very conversion some years ago and had pretty much the same problem, I remember the supplier at the time was difficult to deal with and could not understand that his book was wrong!
Eventually I found another supplier, (Gabriel, I think), who supplied me with the correct shocks and all was well.
Hope this helps
Cheers Roy
