Freelander - buying advice

I'm a visiter round these parts chaps so be gentle. A mate of mine quite fancies a Freelander but keeps reading they have qutie a few reliability issues. He wants to spend around 10-15k, but was so put off by various reports he startted looking at X3s today.

Whats the collective view on relibity of a Freelancder in this price range and what does he need to look out for.
