I have an '02 Defender 90 County Hardtop. Bought new, used daily, excellent cool

But, every winter I have the same tedious problem of the heater being slow to warm the cabin and the pitifully poor demisting.

What are the options?

A heated front screen might help demisting. Any recommendations for supply and fit?

What about a 'pre-heater'. Webasto do one, with its own motor, and I think remotre control, but its £1,000+ fitted. Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Twisted Performance do a larger heater matrix, not sure how good it is though. If not buy a bigger jumper wink.

Pre Heating the cooling water is a great option, as it will also bring down the fuel ecconomy.

A freind of mine has a kit called something like 'Gnome'. (In a Toyota though. But can be fitted in virtually any car.) Quite cheap too ... but you need a 220V power supply in your garage.

Will be looking for one next year. I want a 2nd battery and a cooling water pre heater when the car is going over to Austria.

Kenlowe have a unit called 'Hotstart'.
Plumbs into a heater hose and circulates heated water (75 degrees) around the engine and heater. You run it about half an hour before you start and they claim that will cost you 10P. Comes with an option to wire into the heater fan so it turns on the blower to circulate hot air around the cabin.
Price with option was £314.57 from Rimmer Bros. but it may be cheaper elsewhere. Sounds very much like a DIY fit unless breaking into your car electrics is a problem for you.

Thanks Steve. That sounds like a useful route.

Anyone retro-fitted a heated front screen?

No but LRO did an article about how do do it about 12 months ago.
