I may be wrong but I thought the td5 was unique to the disco?
I think the facelifted 03 onwards are generally reckoned to be better screwed together.
in 55k miles mines had a couple of airflow meters and a fuel pipe ( the pipe was actually changed during a recall but they replaced it with the same faulty part!!!!!)
I should also add I had mine JE-Engineering stage II upgraded from 500 miles
tows the tuscan no problem

TD5 engine is unique to Land Rover and a good engine if looked after properly, especially only been given the right oil. It suits the auto box better IMHO and the TD5 when fitted with autobox was tuned to produce more torque than with the manual, it also cushions the transmission when towing.
My advice is to buy the lowest spec you can get away with. ACE (active cornering enhancement) is great round the corners but expensive when it fails. You're better off with just coils and dampers and as few electrical toys as poss on a used, out of warranty LR IMHO, much as I love them.
