Just seen this on the Fifth Gear website forum:
http://earth2tech.com/2007/07/27/uk-biofuel-tax-co...

My question, will my 300TDi Disco run OK on neat sunflower oil or say a 30/70 mix od Diesel to SFO without damaging the lift pump? It sounds like good news if it will! Fuel at 50ppl sounds good to me!

It's something that I intend to do soon and am actively looking for a 300Tdi Disco to put it into paractice.

Have a read of this for an idea. I'm going to go for a twin tank conversion so I can run on straight veg oil except for the first and last couple of miles each journey.

Really look into this before trying it. Brian Green a diesel specialist near me said it would work but the lift pump wouldn't take it for too long..... My lift pump cost £250 to have new seals and be re-calibrated injectors cost £60-£80 each...... it's like gassing a V8, is it worth it in the long run scratchchin

if you can have a listen to you and yours for thursday 21st september on radio 4.they suggested thst running purely on veg oil one would need a pre heater for the fuel pump.or you could buy a kit for £700 to convert used chip fat into bio diesel

Ran my 300tdi on bio fuel for a couple of months and found the following.

The fuel is yes cheap but it did less to the gallon.
If the disco was left to tick over it smoked very badly,in the end at trafic lights or in trafic jams it was quite bad.
Also when towing or under load it would smoke badly also.
I have removed the egr valve etc so it was very clean running prior to the bio fuel.
Its now 4 months or so since i stopped filling up with bio and its only just started running clean again.
So i would personaly give it a miss until more development on the bio fuel front,by which time it wont be much cheaper than standard derv.rolleyes
