Had to move the passenger side electric seat fully forward on saturday and now the poxy thing won't move back or in any other direction.

The three fuses underneath the seat are all still fine, am I missing something obvious. If not are there any suggestions or tips on moving it back again.

Its a series 2 Disco V8iES

cheers

Probably just jammed against a little used part of the track.
Have you tried sitting in it and throwing your weight back and forth whilst pressing the button?

Usualy the switch----You can take the switch apart and clean it,BUT take it indors and do it on a tray,it a bit like those get the ball bearings in the clowns face game but with springs as well
Good luck

I would go for the switch as well. Its the same type as fitted to the classic and was a problem on them.Originally a Mercedes part.

Thanks guys

I'll take a look, I did try the 'leaping around like a loon' trick whilst pressing the button. It didn't work but I did get some very odd looks!

Have a look in the main fusebox, there may be another fuse in there that's blown.

Other than that, if you take the switch out and measure the voltage across the pins in the connector (once you've disconnected it from the switch), that'll give you an idea if there's voltage arriving there.

Switch is similar (but not the same as the original Disco), on the Series II it's a BMW part (as they owned Rover/LR back when the SII was developed). Mine had a BMW logo on the back.

A top tip indeed, despite this advice I still managed to catapult the lot round my kitchen floor. After finally tracking down all the bits and pieces, cleaning and re-fitting the switch its still jammed.

Guess I need to start looking elsewhere!!

cheers

It still seems that the switch itself is no good.

Having seen the inside of the switch you now know which wires connect to each other when the switch is operated so can now short the connector and prove/disprove the dead switch theory. Either that or borrow the switch from the drivers side.

Turns out it was a little more 'obvious' than all that. Having finally taken the time to have a good look underneath the seat (well as good a look as its possible to take with the seat fully forward!) There appeared to be a relay sitting on the floorpan that probably shouldn't have been there.

Seat now works fine!!
