LPG - P38 (2001) any systems worth looking at?

Talk to Mark Adams about what your options are. I'm not sure if he's about, but he is worth waiting for - try him through his ebay shop http://stores.ebay.co.uk/V8Performance

I only have experience of one system on my 01 p38 and it has been faultless in 40k miles and no really noticeable performance penalty.
I have an AG SGI multipoint system (sequential gas injection) and although it has an ecu of its own it interfaces with the bosch ecu somehow and so (I am told) integrates with the main engine management system. It has a 95litre toroidal tank in place of the spare wheel. I get about 15mpg average on gas and if I use petrol (which I rarely do) I get about 18mpg to give an idea of the relative fuel consumption.
For insurance make sure your installer is part of the LPG Association Approved Installer scheme and can provide you with an LPG conversion certificate, some insurers require it some dont! Also some insurers wont quote you on a gas converted vehicle, but I've never struggled to find a suitable insurer.

His sounds identical to my old one, except for the manufacturer. MPG was identical to petrol from what i could tell. Watch the cooling system, LPG burns hotter than petrol apparently, so only makes the P38's colling issues worse. At hte very lease get the cooling system flushed and the radiator rodded, if not replaced.
oh, ok
never had any overheating probs with mine.
also, do you get another fuel gauge for the LPG tank?
where does that go? I cant find anywhere empty for it to go tbh.
edit, found somthing that replaces the only spare dash button, which is nice.

It wasnt cheap at about £2.5k! (2005 prices). I know I could have got it cheaper, maybe as low as £1800? But my local independant LR garage is really local, I trust his work without question and the conversion work was first class. Unless you know what to look for it is difficult to tell any conversion work has taken place. Finally my p38 is a long term prospect and so I was happy that I would recoup the expense during my ownership.
I have a 2002 P38 4.6 Vogue which I bought just under a year ago. Mine had a Zavoli multipoint system fitted as part of the purchase. Cost was around £2000 plus VAT. Done 13k since with no problems.
The LPG system I have needs separately servicing every 10,000 miles costing £130 inc VAT and filters.
My LPG tank is the doghnut type that fits in the spare wheel well (so I now have a can of tyre weld as the spare) and the filling point sits next to the petrol filler inside the filler flap. There is a separate LED guage for the LPG tank as it does not get wired into the main ECU. Note these guages are all unreliable as an accurate measure of LPG left in the tank. The advice I have received is to reset the trip and use the trip as a guage. I get between 160 and 190 miles to a full tank for town driving and 220 to 240 on a full tank on the motorway.
