Freelander 2 - thoughts on diesel auto

We are looking at a Freelander 2 or possibly Toureg, both diesel automatics. I favour the Freelander, but am a bit concerned about a 2.2l engine as I am used to big petrol engines.

I am booking a test drive, but any real experience of living with these cars would be great

I also wondered if, being turbocharged, they are safely and cost effectively tuneable by chip/remap and who would be best to do it
