What do you want it to do?

If it's just you and a partner and you want an awesome SUV to looks fab, handles like a big saloon then buy a TDV8 RRS without a doubt.

However, if you are looking for some wheels to haul the family around and need the space and practicality then the Disco 3 wins hand down.

All depends on what you want from the vehicle
Disco3 is a comfortable workhorse with loads of space and either 5 or 7 seats.
RRS is a better on-road driving car with most of the D3's off-road ability. I've had the RRS TDV8 for about 6 months and 12k miles now and had no problems. it is a great car for towing and surprisingly economical, 30+ mpg is achievable and close to that when towing. I needed a car for long distance travling and the RRS sutied me better than the Disco3 and I'm not old enough ...yet... for the Full Fat Range Rover.
for more specific info on the Disco3 and RRS have a look at www.DISCO3.co.uk and www.RRSPORT.co.uk

If you want to carry large items in the boot then you'll likely need the D3, the RRS boot is compromised by the sloping hatch

They are the same car give or take but the RRS costs more and you look like a *&%£.

Have had a few discoveries , in fact have two at the moment , a v8 we have had for the last 8 years and a new disco 3 HSE with a few bling bits on , i was to be honest a little nervious about it but could not find anything which would ship all out lids and gear about and be compitant off road when i use it for my hobbies. We looked at the rrs but it was to small for out family .

Anyway we picked it up on the 18 th of Jan this year and so far we have done 5k in it bearing in mind i dont use it for work its been put to good use runnign kids abut and on long trips to scotland and devon , we are absolutly chuffed with it , no real niggles so far and would highly recomend one.

One comment about, about looking like a van , that was one of my issues , i took a bit of a risk and spec'd what i think they call a bright pack which in reality a few chrome strips and chrome side tubes , i had a fear that it would end up being a bit to much but in rality the few stips have brken up th eslab sided apppearance of the disco , i also spec'd a soft nudge bar and rear privicy glass and it does look the part , almost have had more positive comments about it than i did with the 996 turbo

An idication of how impressed i am with it is that my posts normaly are max a few lines ! this is war and peace by my standards.

We too went for a Disco 3 HSE for a family car and have had a good time with it. 3 child seats in the back and still loads of room in the boot. We went from a saab estate (also a 996tt went for a G4 Defender) So we really have been bitten by the LR bug.

go one -get a defender - such a grin factor..... you could even go for a G4 defender and join the G4 club and come along on the london to Brighton run in the summer ( with all the other G4s) as landrovers.

Not that im keen on G4's.........
