I've got a 200Tdi Disco that I've had for a while, and recently acquired a 200Tdi Defender for a song. Seems a good'n, but not as responsive as the Disco. I assumed they were the same mechanically, & geared the same. Am I wrong?

dont the defenders have a 1.4 transfer box as opposed to the disco's 1.2

What age is the defender? I think the very early TDi Defenders were detuned to less than 100 bhp. Also I believe the Disco 200 was more powerful than the non detuned Defender (although only by a few bhp) due to the Disco turbo/manifold set up being more efficient.

I believe that the Defenders had slightly less power than the Discos - but only a cuple of BHP or so. The main difference is the aerodynamics - the Defenders have far more drag. Just look at the published top speed figures for both and you'll see what I mean! I think the Defender is lower geared as well so suffers on top end speed.
