Risks of buying an 05 Discovery 3? and whats it worth?

I can buy our "company" Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE - 05/55 with 74k miles from the leasing company. Idea being to use it as the family snotter.

Question is - what are the risks of runing this car out of warranty? (the leasing company were unwilling to extend the lease for another 6 months because of the "risks of maintenance"). The car has been serviced on schedule but has had quite a hard life acting as a tow vehicle - and whilst I have done the bulk of the miles (say 60%) others have driven the car hard whilst towing heavy trailers.

I've had some bad experiences with older generation Rangies (mainly P38's) in the past and am worried that the minute this thing gets out of warranty (i.e a week tomorrow) - something major like a gearbox or diesel pump will implode.

I don't think I can extend the warranty (but would love to be wrong on this) - because of the miles? And even if I could would I be better if simply pocketing the cash and hoping that nothing goes pop.

Any idea what an 05/55 HSE TDV6 with 74k miles is worth in the current climate?? Not much I'd think..but no doubt the leasing company won't see it that way!

Have you called your LR dealer to ask if you can extend the warranty? I Believe its approx 1k per year.
