No surprise I suppose - but the heater in my series 2a is shocking! Being cold I can live with, but I draw th line at not seeing where I am going through misted up windows.

I've stripped the heater down (it's one of those round Smiths ones) and the fan motor is really slow. I am told they arn't much better when new! Has anyone ever tried to fit another motor into one of these units - (Range Rover one looks similar) - or even non Land Rover??

Hi,
is it low airflow that is the problem or lack of heat? Do you have the standard mechanical fan on the water pump? If the engine isn't getting properly warm then the heater output will be poor too.

I think that the motor on this type of heater is different to that on Series 3 / Range Rover heaters. Perhaps you should try and fit a Series 3 type heater (on passenger footwell) with two matrices - increased heat capacity and a better fan. This should take about a weekend's worth of work.

Hope that helps...

At least you have a bit of heat! When I had my series 1 there was no heater whatsoever, and in cold weather there were draughts everywhere-the worst being on the door pillar behind my head-sending a jet of freezing air right down the back of my neck.
The only LR Ive had with a decent heater is my 07 90XS.In the older models you just learn to wrap up warmer in the winter months.
