I got a quote for a mid 80's 3.5 V8 series 3 running on LPG.

39 yrs old
Full NCB
One minor claim and no convictions
Parked on a private gated drive
5k miles a year

£300!
With A-Plan

That's as much as my 270bhp soft top roadster and that has mods too!

Anywhere else who are sensible on premiums?

OK thanks, gives some idea.

That'll be a 1998ish LR then - I'd expect the early 80's classic series 3 to be a bit cheaper than that even if it's a V8!

It is modified of course (no V8 in the series 3 apparently) but still, £300 odd with a £300 x/s seems "excessive" to me!

Talk to Sureterm, NFU or one of the experts in Land Rover insurance. They do specialised policies which don't require, or earn, NCB but are cheap.

I paid Sureterm £120, fully comp, on a 1986 V8 90 and that included breakdown.

Similar specs as you,

1974 v8 series 3 hybrid, coiled suspension, bobtailed, roll cage, and me 39 years old, 1 speeding offence and 4 yrs NCB insured through Footman James @ £184.20 pa.
Dont use NFU as they charge a fortune and definately dont like mods.

A Plan were hugely expensive when I insured my V8 L322. IIRC, they were quoting me £850 p.a, whereas Bell offered better cover for somewhere just under £500 p.a.

Strange, as A Plan were by far the cheapest when I insured my Boxster previously.

Insurance always seems a complete lottery of whose criteria you meet!
My V8 L322 is with A plan for £420.

I agree, i tried A-plan and they were sky high.

Having said that i am paying £1100 for my Vogue SE, the joys of having zero no claims due to one kind person taking out the side of my car and driving off and another where a van pulled out of a junction into my wife, now his insurers are disputing he was even covered as apparently he cancelled his insurance 1 hour before the accident.

That depends on how long you have been with them I think. They were fine with my very modified 90

I use them for my Navara and 90 (declared as standard)but when asking for a quote for my v8 series 3 hybrid and modified 200sx they wanted an additional 50% over and above the already expensive quote for standard vehicles!

cool. They can certainly be a bit funny with modified road cars!

This LR turned out to be a bit of a shed so I kept my cash this time wink

Thanks all for the advice and price comparisons.
