Disco 3 diesel leak
Discussion
Driving the wife's Disco 3 today, it developed a significant diesel leak somewhere in the engine compartment.
Judging by the amount of smoke, I reckon it was pishing onto the block or even exhaust manifold. I feel lucky not to have been involved in a fire.
Someone tapped on my window at lights to tell me they could see a fluid leak. On stopping, the leak was a constant but frequent drip from three or four locations. After cooling down, it was approximately one drip every four seconds.
I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience.
The car was in to the local dealer the week before last. They had to recalibrate some electronic widget. The symptoms of this were the parking brake warning light being on and the gear position indicator taking a while to register.
Might they have broken a fuel line connection to get at the job?
I'm now beginning to look at this car as an 'unlucky' motor. There have been a series of problems with it, features I don't like (e.g. the stupid handbrake) and one frightening near-miss (related to the stupid handbrake).
More later but any advice on this scary fuel leak would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Eric

Oh, another thing while I'm at it.
In the back, I keep an old duvet for the dog to lie on. It smells of exhaust fumes.
Now, this may be due to the car being in the paddock at hillclimb venues for whole days with the tailgate open all day ... or might it be something wrong with the car (I'd hate to think of the dog being exposed to too much CO
).
Cheers,
Eric

I Can't offer any help on the fuel leak i am sorry, but i'd like to hear more about the handbrake issues you are having.
I think the electronic handbrake is very badly designed - especially on manual cars. Mine actually started to roll away once on its own !Perhaps it's reference to this.
Problems as I see it
1) The lever should be on or off and not pull release
2) If you you don't hold it on for a few seconds it does not aleays engage
3) If you switch off the engine I think it should engage automatically or after say 5 seconds. It only engages when you take the key out.
