Hi all,
just started having a problem on wifes 2000 dhse, when you put the drivers window up it sounds like it jumping the winding cog when it reachs the top. Also "window not set" message appears on dash, tried to set window, but no luck.

So can anyone tell me is this;
[a] a fault with the outstation on drivers door?
[b] a fault with the window motor?

I do not know which of these dictates when to cut the motor, is there a micro switch in the winder gear, or a sensor that notes glass position? I live in France, and my nearest dealer is miles away, plus bloody expensive.
If I do not get this sorted, I know it will damage the winder mechanism sooner rather than later.
Please help

My Autobiography does exactly the same thing and has done since I bought it!
I can say for certain that it isn't the outstation (I've replaced mine) and there is no microswitch limit switch. There is a hall effect sensor on the motor that is supposed to remember where the 'fully up' position is. My assumption is that this sensor is faulty. As the only cure looks like a replacement motor and this is a fairly laborious task, I've never bothered to replace mine. I have to say, it hasn't caused any damage to the mechanism (yet!) and its been a couple of years now.....

Window mechanism is broke.Common P38 problem.Requires a strip down of the door, and can be a b**tard to fit.Replaced three on my previous P38.Your symptoms are the classic sign.

Yep, I'd agree with BT. The teeth on the regulator (the mechanism that does the lifting/dropping) and the motor will be worn causing the dreadful noise you experience when the window is being pushed to fully closed against it's endstop.

Replace them as a pair to make sure the problem doesn't return for a long time. It is a PITA job (the regulator is originally pop rivetted to the door skin) but more fiddly than requiring an indepth knowledge of the car. There are no switches to re-set or anything that needs plugging in to Testbook. Once you've fitted the the new parts, use the button to roll the window up and down a few times and hold it against it's endstops until you hear the relay 'trip'.

A quick trawl of our favourite internet auction site revealed: The regulator on it's own, item number: 370125199104, or the motor and regulator combined: 120345332450

Just a quick update, dismantled winder mechanism, found 3 teeth worn away, quick mig weld and a file up, re-fitted the mechanism, and now good as new. Well chuffed!!
Thanks again for the info chaps.

just a thought- is the winder mech in the rear windows the same size? I can live with that window being jammed in place a lot more happily than I can the front window, so am wondering if I could just switch them over?

Am having a trawl through the stuff I've got here to find out, but suspect that they won't be the same.

Unfortunately, work keeps getting in the way! biggrin

Nervy,

Whilst I can't see the part numbers (which would confirm if they are different) a browse through the manuals and images that i have would suggest that the two are not interchangeable.

Happy to be corrected by someone who knows for definate.

About £50
http://www.land-rover-parts-shop.com/shop/lrps/en/...

Which is a bind as when I replaced the one in my 110 it was about 11 quid. It is a simple job once you have the door card off.

BTW that is just an example, I don't know if that is the right one for your motor.
