After a month of worrying if my Rangie was dying, i decided to bite the bullet and buy a new (used) one from a min dealer.

Told them that the car had a fault, and over 50mph the dash said Transmission fault. I wanted the cars delivered / collected on a trailor as a. its my new car, and b my current has this fault. Dealer wanted to drive both ways.

Deal agreed, new car being delivered tomorrow. As dealer is driving my car away and the new gearbox filter arrived I booked it into be fitted.

Call from garage, after a brief test drive the car no longer drives at all!

Just rung dealer and explained the situation.

So. I now have a 2002 TD6 with £4499 outstanding needing a £2600 gearbox. Value £5000!

not a good day!

ouch!

This may be a bit horse and stable door, but why on earth did you do this when you had done a deal on the car already, wouldn't just leaving it on the drive until it was taken away as PX been the obvious thing to do? Not having a go just puzzled as to what you did.

I knew that the garage wanted to drive the car away, which i wasnt sure about. Once my local dealer said the part was in (and already paid for) i thought it would be the polite thing to do.

Hindsight is a £2600 option i didnt have.

Been on to phone to dealer, and the deal is unwrapping itself.

They want to pay be bottom rate for my car £7000, less £2600 for the gearbox. They want me to pay full retail for the car i want to buy £27995, with a free service in 1 year.

Walk away, get yours fixed & have another go somewhere else.

They will want to sell you a car more than you want to buy one

Just come to that decision as well Schmalex.

Car booked in for collection today, and should be back end of next week.

Shame, i had convinced myself buying a SuperCharged would be a good thing to do.

I'll try again in March / April when the new reg's drive the prices down. Hopefully the same car will still be for sale!

The Supercharged is a fine idea. If I could get a decent trade in on my 4.4, I would go for one myself.

Mine too now i know he was going to take a Supercharged off their hands. Those things are about as toxic as toxic waste right now. Great cars, just wrong period in time and sellers know this.
