Looking at getting one but I am now having my reservations as nearly everyone I have spoken to say they are noisy, sluggish and under powered, and that i should go for the V8 petrol.

Are they that bad ?

I have found one that I am very keen on and as it is for the wife, the performance isn't of too much importance. I just want it to be a smooth cruiser on long journeys.

Is this too much to expect from it ??

I have test driven one and I didn't think it was that noisy. Unfortunately the wallet cannot stretch to the TDV8 (yet), so the TD6 will have to do.

Diesel prices are identical to petrol prices over here so fuel economy will be better with the TD6 compared to the UK making it more attractive.

All comments welcomed !!!

It all depends on whether you're expecting it to be as quck as the modern SUVs, or whether you're happy that it'll be as quick as every RangeRover before it.

I'm not bothered about it being quick, just comfortable. It will be for carrying my wife and newborn, so not too fussed about the 0-60 on it. Besides, I have come to acknowledge the fact that it is now near impossible to go at anysort of speed and not eventually get collared. I'd rather have comfort and luxury over speed and performance (although obviously if I could afford it I would have them all !!)

Thanks

I have had a TD6 and did over 80,000 miles in it.whilst it was never going to be fastest vehicle on the road it was always a good mile muncher, the only noise that irritated me was then the fans cut in but this was only an issue when in town,I felt the vehicle drove much better once it was "chipped" the gearchanges during accelaration are much quicker and smoother. IMO buy a TD^ until you can afford a TDV8.

If my memory is correct i think it was about 210 bhp, fuel consumption didn't seem to suffer, check out the superchips website for a local dealer

Would buy a petrol every time, unless it is the TDV8. The 4.4 Vogue is a sweet ride.

had my td6 just over a month and still very impressed with it towed the boat to the lakes last weekend and managed 23 to the gallon never dropped a gear on the uphill bits seems to pull effortlessly. don`t know if it`s been chipped previously normal running getting 25 to the gallon. And on the motorway you can`t tell its a derv. not to keen on the 4.4 petrol had a 740 with the same engine nothing but trouble but thats just my experiance

Have had a TD V6 Diesel for about 12 months now without any problems.

Average about 28 mpg round town and 34 mpg on motorway runs.

It isn't fast but, there again, in 'Sport mode' it isn't as slow as many cars.

Overall, very pleased with mine.

Enjoy!

I just bought a TDV8 last month having PX'ed my TD6 for it. There is no point in trying to compare the TD6 with a TDV8 as they are chalk and cheese, but that doesn't mean the TD6 is a bad car by any stretch of the imagination.

0-60 times shouldn't be an issue when buying something like a Range Rover IMO. A RR is a big comfortable 4x4. It doesn't pretend to be a 2 door sports coupe and i don't understand why people look for features asociated with sporty cars in a big 4x4.

I had my TD6 for about a year and half and i loved it, never once did i feel i had the wrong engined car, and i am a biker that likes his litre superbikes and all the performance that brings. You just need to be sure what it is you are looking for in the TD6 and it sounds to me like you do and as a safe car for the wife and newborn i think it is a perfect choice.

If you have got an 04 make sure it has had the free recall done on the front drive shaft. Your local dealer will be able to tell you if has been done or not, don't worry it is a free replacement. Let us know how you get on and post some pics for us. You will love it.
