Long story short a 7.5 ton lorry ran into the back of my 04 3 door freelander on the 2nd of this month. Theres a thread in general gassing if anyone is interested.

The rear of the car is damaged but i "think" its repairable.

Damage to be replaced/repaired is as follows.

New rear window. New tailgate as current has been buckled at the bottom left corner behind the freelander badge and trim. Spare wheel and tyre took a hit so will need replaced. Rear bumper is broke and pushed out at left side is broke and pushed out. Roof rails will need replaced as the left side where it meets the bodywork is bent and the mounting bracket has been pushed slightly backworks and to the right over the tailgate. Both lights on the left side are smashed and the electrics dont work. Bodyshell has a few dents over the rear left arch, one lies directly over the top of the plastic arch trim, another is 4 inchs back from that to the rear of the car. The metalwork round the rear fog/reverse light is pushed in slightly at the bottom and the bodyshell behind the bumper is slightly dented in. The floor on the back left corner has a small ripple but its not in the boot floor or in a main support area of the shell.

Sounds alot but if my dam iphone would let me get the pictures off it i could post them up to show the damage.

Now, the local landrover dealership has a bodyshop with it and i want the insurance company to use them as my brothers car is in the place they have said they use and i dont want it to end up in a place that deals mostly likely in corsa's and focus's etc. Also i have 10 months of a fully comprehensive warrenty and i dont want to lose that.

So has anyone used them, any horror stories or did your car get fixed properly and returned in pre accident condition?

I really dont want it to be written off as its a really clean and suprisingly mechanically problem free example.

From the damage you describe, I doubt very much if it would an economical repair. However, if your insurance company do want to fix it, you can nominate a bodyshop of your choice.

If you car is within the bodywork warranty, then always use the manufacturer's bodyshops.

From experience, I would avoid all Dealer bodyshops unless you can speak to many satisfied customers. In addition, I would refuse to send my car to any Insurance preferred bodyshops. Instead, I use a specialist who have been recommended by many.

A 2004 car with that much damage will be a right off I think. I would get the cash and go find a steal somehwere.......
