Holy Hell! just went for a wee look down the local BMW garage and showed interest in an X3 - sat down with salesman, went over the figures, He commented on how good my 2005 Freelander station wagon HSE was - then refused to offer more than 5k for it as a trade in against a 30k car! - its got 30k miles on the clock, top of the range TD4 which cost me 15k a year and a half ago. 5 grand! you guys are having a laugh

went down the road to Mercedes - had a wee look at one of their cars - got offered 6k max against a 40k merc

I knew the freelander was going to depreciate but 10k in a year and a half! - think I'll be keeping it a while longer and simply destroy the thing - whats the point in taking any care of it - its virtually worthless

any one else had insulting trade in offers for their landy?

I'll give you £7k for it!!! Only joking and as you say at that value there is no point in selling it.

I'm in the market for a Range Rover for that very reason - the prices seem to have fallen through the floor. I'm looking at a 2005/6 Rangie for just over £20k - unbelievable even 9 months ago.

Why don't you keep the Freelander and get the Merc as well??!!

Yeah think I'll just keep it - was tempted to trade it in for an X3 but its not worth taking such a big hit. No way could I buy an X3 or merc as well - wife would kill me considering I've also got a Tuscan and a triumph daytona hibernating in the garage

If only I could get the freelander to stop squeeking so badly I could easily fall back in love with it again - It really is great to drive but for a 2005 HSE these niggles are driving me nuts (every now and again I get up in the morning to find its put its own back window down - boot gets wet!!

Think I'll stop taking such care of it and simply use it as the family Hack but to do that with an 3 year old car is just daft!

any way - i'm off to give it a polish and interior dusting!

Try and find a landrover specialist and ask them about the tailgate window dropping problem.
I have a 04 se model but mine doesnt drop its window. Dodgy connection or something? does the window drop with the interior switch?

Main dealers will always give you a poor trade in price in the current market.

I bought a 53 TD6 Autobiography year and half ago, gave close to £30k for it, i traded it last month for a whisker over £10k so i took a 20k hit in the same time, but in percentage terms it looks about the same as the OP's Freelander.

Some ask me why did i trade it and take such a hit, because the TDV8 i bought some guy took a £30k hit in a year so an 07 TDV8 Vogue SE for £40k odd was too good to miss from a main dealer. 3 years free tax and full warranty. Bargain i say and well worth the hit, all i did was move the hit from one vehicle to the next. If you think along those lines the trade in price you get isn't so bad. Remember you will be getting a cheap car too, unless you are buying brand new of course with no discounts.

good point! now wheres the phone number for Ferrari Glasgow?

seriously though, I bought a Tuscan a couple of months ago to replace my Chimaera (as a weekend alternative to the freelander) - I paid 7.5k for the chim 3 years ago and sold it for 6.5k - used the money to put it towards the tuscan. Garage wanted 17k for the tuscan - I offered 12, 3 weeks later they took the 12k and I now have a tuscan. So you're right - loads of bargains out there if you have the cash waiting - simply make a daft offer, leave your number and walk away!

I had that problem with the back window and the dealer dismissed it under warranty.
