Just bought one – RR Supercharged
Discussion
Guys
I know that there are a few people lurking on here looking to buy a Range Rover Supercharged, so I thought I’d share my experience as I’ve just bought one.
I started looking after Christmas and found that there are a lot of 2005 cars for early – mid £20’s, with the most expensive I saw being £29,950 from Saxton 4x4. I test drove a good example from a Stratstone Reading priced at £24950, 2005 car with 60k miles inc 1 year manufacturer warranty which seemed reasonable for a main dealer, but it was the wrong colour (silvery green).
I then really narrowed my criteria – must be black supercharged with privacy glass and have a new shape dash. The new shape dash came out late 2006 and includes LR terrain response, an electric handbrake, cooling (as well as heated) seats, key in a different place and a few other minor things. Not sure why I wanted this ‘facelift’ but I felt I was missing out on something if I didn’t have it! Ridiculous really.
Cars with the above criteria seemed to selling for over £30k. Saw many examples at mid £30’s which was the very top end of my budget . I found a 3 owner car meeting the above for £31,950 from DMT Autos in Penn which I was very tempted by, but then I stumbled across the one I bought:-
Registered late 2006 (23/11/06) with balance of manufacturers warranty until 11/09. 41k miles, 1 owner (a premiership football player, so had to check for the stiletto marks in the headlining!!), black privacy glass with electric deployable side steps (nice extra) for £27k inc delivery to my house (was advertised at £27900)
The original sales receipt shows that he paid £78853.61 for the car!!! So over £50k depreciation in just over 2 years. When I HPI’d it, it showed finance outstanding so I requested proof that it had been paid off – he had paid £46.5k to the finance company to walk away from the car. Ouch - £19.5k worth of negative equity. I suppose it’s all relative when you earn footballer wages.
Anyway, I’m chuffed a 2 year old £80k car for £27k and I love the ride – it’s so smooth and refined yet bloody quick for such a large car.
Has anyone else joined the club and bought one recently????? Hope this helps to push you to buy one if you haven’t already!

What a fantastic thing, superb, well done!
It's absolutely exactly what I'm looking for, Black RR Supercharged.
I'm looking to swap the family Volvo xc90 for one, from those that have had RR before, what's the view vis a vis Diesel Vs Petrol?
Advice very much appreciated.
I have had extended test drives in both supercharged and TDV8 while my car was in for service (my car is a 4.4). Really didn't like the diesel, quite laggy and noticeably slower than my car, i think a remap might help quite a lot with this though. Also mpg was really not that great on the diesel, I deliberately tried to drive it economically to see what it would do, i think it averaged in the low 20's on a mix of town motorway road. It was a real let down as everyone raves about them and i was expecting a miracle. It's absolutely exactly what I'm looking for, Black RR Supercharged.

Supercharged, was definately quicker than my car from low speed, 20-100, the supercharged managed 110 in the same distance. Running my car and a supercharged side by side from 60 there was no noticeable difference, niether car pulled any lengths even at higher speeds.
My conclusion was that for me it was not worth changing my car for either at present as there was not enough improvement but when i do it will be a supercharged.

I had the car mapped and it made no noticable difference in any department (a waste of money really) it did however increase the mpg by 1 mpg at motorway speed.

May I ask what mpg do you get from your 4.4?
15.5 I don't clock up a lot of miles but in the 3 1/2 years i've run it it has varied very little from this regardless of the type of roads. Basically £80 gets you about 250 miles or 350 if its motoway. 2004 4.4 but 9 months and 10,000 miles, trip one showed 20.0 over the summer, dropped top 19.8 over the winter. So I guess it'll probably probably settle around 19.9 after next summer.
My old 4.2 classic did 17.5 and my 4.6 HSE used to do 14.5, so the L322 is pretty good for a heavier car.

Wish I hadn't bought my Disco 3 new a year ago. For the money I paid for it then, I could have got an RRS TDV8 and a RR S/C now and with the change still bought the wife a bunch of flowers.

but you wouldnt have the 7 seats or be as discreet as a D3. We got a D3 a year ago (used) and still woulndt go for a RRs or RR as it does not quite fit our bill for what we want.

The RRS is a super looking machine. Great price.
