The sound quality from the stereo is good, in fact it's far better than my other cars.
The problem is that it's based on old media - 6 CD changer and tape player!

I would like something like a single slot CD based MP3 player with either an SD card or (preferably) a USB memory key reader and then forget about having the CD changer in the boot. I know such things exist, but I don't want to lose the sound quality or steering wheel controls or have a memory key sticking out of the dash all the time. (What's the smallest USB stick you can buy?)

Has anyone gone down this road? And who made the original kit?

Thanks

I think yours would be Alpine, I'm sure they'll do at least an Ipod kit for it. Phone one of their dealers?

Earlier models (like mine) are Clarion. They can have an ipod lead (at the back of unit) added by Clarion Service UK.

I did a bit more investigating and yes, it's the Alpine system with the Harman-Kardon upgrade that apparently came as part of the satnav option.

I'm now worried that I'll stop the satnav audio working. Maybe I'd better leave it alone for the moment!

Take it to an Alpine retailer: I'm sure they can add a line-in to it.

is yours a mk3, if so, the intravee unit upgrades to allow integration of ipods etc, you could also upgrade your 6 disc changer for the newer bmw unit that plays mp3's and uses id text so on your head display the name of the artist and tracks are displayed and you retain all std equipment, you could replace you 6 disc changer with a harddrive or swap out the whole audio set up for a new one.

It must be one of the last mk2s registered, just before the mk3 was released. Not that I know a lot about Range Rover models.

I therefore suspect the easy BMW upgrade route you suggest may not be available to me, which is a shame. The hard drive solution sounded ideal.

I think daddy was referring to the Nav computer as opposed to the car. AFAIK the Intravee cannot be used with a P38 Nav.

Take a look at the link for an easy method of connecting an Ipod to a P38. You lose the CD changer but I guess that won't be a problem.

I'm about to buy one as it can be used in my wifes P38 and then easily swapped to my Disco 2 for long trips across Europe.
