Had my Td4 HSE late 2004 since October. Also a TVR Chimaera. The Td4 is great and today just cruises over the snow where others are left stranded. 41mpg on longer runs as well so not even a gas guzzler.

On my 2nd freelander, The td4 engine is a bmw engine so is usually quite reliable.
From 03 onwards the build quality was improved. Things can still go wrong though.

Heres my 04 td4 se 3 door. Got it on thursday and im very happy with it. Does 39mpg on mostly town driving. Easy to drive and handles reasonable for its size, its no sports car but you drive them accordingly. Go for SE or HSE spec as they have everything you will need. Air con, heated windscreen, half leather heated seats and heated, electric power fold mirrors, cd player ( or 6 disc) parking sensors and 16-17" alloys.

Edit to say ignore the date, camera is playing silly buggers.

Just thought I might add that the 2.0 BMW 4pot diesel did have some issues with the turbo - around 2002-2003 i think- so just be wary and check for smoke etc. Dont know how much of a job it is on a freelander.

On the other hand if you do find a decent one but find it is lacking a bit of power thing about getting it remapped because they are really good after they have been remapped and can really make a difference.

Mine was £6500, 1 owner with flrsh and 37k on the clock.

Got a good deal on it as i bought my previous freelander from the same place back in october, identical car really, same colour, spec age but with 58k on it.
Old one was written off by a 7.5 ton lorry going into the back of it. I walked out unhurt so they are safe enough.

Xei is ok but i would go for SE or HSE. more toys and better to sell on. It makes sense;)

Je engineering do a remap for the TD4 for £295. Im getting it done in a couple of months.

Bhp goes to 145, and torque to 300nm. Takes 25% of the 0-60 time so goes from 13.2 down to 9.9 seconds. Fuel economy will improve as well, if you dont use the extra power.
