I'm pondering on the possibilities of this conversion. I have a 4.6 P38 with a few miles on it now and happen to have a good BMW V12 engine sitting in my workshop doing nothing. Anyone heard of such a conversion? I guess the engine would bolt straight onto the existing gearbox as it is the same box as used in the 750/850. I suspect the sump clearance may prove a problem. Just throwing it open to ideas and opinions. I reckon it'd be a good match in terms of characteristics.

Reading a book on the 38A atm which is very interesting.

When BMW took over LR in the early 90's it wanted to change the RR engines to BMW V8 and V12. They really tried to get the V12 in there, but it was about 6" too long apparently. So the idea was forgotten and, not long later, LR was passed on to Ford.

I was reading an article on the P38 too not too long ago, and they did mention about the V12 being too large - Shame, what a car that could be!

They also wanted to develop a supercharged V8 for the P38, but they ran out of money frown

I have seen that v12 engine in a e30 3 series, so you would think it possible in a range rover.
