Boot Gas Strut on Discovery 3

Parents have a Discovery 3 and the gas strut is buggered.
They went to order a new one and were informed that LR had lots on back order and weren't supplying them?
Anyone know anything about this? Or more importantly where to actually get one?
As at the moment have to use hand to hold it open and it is a bit of a pain, especially for my mum.
