Main Dealer - What Discount
Discussion
Well all you have to do is look on the internet for the age/spec/condition of RR you want and then ring the sellers and buy the cheapest one.
Just because someone got a £3000 discount off a car marked at £50,000 if you can find a samilar car for £45,000 elsewhere with no discount which one would you buy ? Which one would you consider the best value ?
Like the poster above, if you want GAP, paintprotection etc they will give you that rather than a discount as they perceived cost to you ~£600 for GAP and ~£400 so £1000 but it will only cost them about £200 for both.

Thanks for that Allan Sugar.
I don't think Johnnyhayward was trying to be sarcastic by saying it was a stupid question. But he is right, used cars of the same year same model will owe different dealers different amounts and this will dictate what discount you can negotiate. As said already choose your model and search the internet, which is exactly what i do. I ended up going to Derby (from Cardiff) for my Vogue SE because it was the cheapest approved used RR in the country. My local LR dealer wanted an extra 8 grand for the same spec/year car.
Thanks for the education all.
I guess I must just be having some bad luck with the cars I am paicking then! - that, or the dealers are paying over the odds for the car's in the first place which is not working to my advantage.
I do find it difficult to belive that a dealer cant afford £800 off screen price and 6 months extra warranty cover though - which is the last atrocious negotiation I was exposed too.

There are all sorts of dynamics at work. Used car prices generally have firmed up a lot since Xmas and 4x4 & SUVs have been particularly affected as people's desire to own one hasn't been so adversly impacted as was feared.Late last year a poster on the HonestJohn forum said his local LR dealer wasn't taking 4x4s as px's. New sales of all cars are way down and 4x4s have been severely hit. These things combined reduce the number used 4x4s that are available and if a dealer sells one to you at a hefty discount then he could struggle to replace it.
Back end of last year a colleague of mine bought a pretty loaded, year old 3L VW Touareg for £20K. I've been looking and same car would be £25K now.

Wargriff, are these auctions you mention 'Land Rover Closed Auctions' selling off ex managment cars etc?
I realise that not being an LR Dealer one is unable to attend the auctions but if the LR dealers are about to get their hands on some more stock perhaps this increased supply might go someway to reduce the currently cocky attitude of LR salesmen!
99 cars & 100 customers = a shortage of stock, 100 cars & 99 customers = a glut.
At the minute they tell me they have many more customers than they have used RRs? We shall see!

If you have a request, i may be able to help.
Let me know what you are after.
That said, there are a lot of LR auctions at present and all cars are fetching above book...
Don't tell me that now, just as I've let my Disco3 go, very possibly too cheap. Let me know what you are after.

At least it went within 2 days of the advert tho'.
