My Daughter is thinking of up sizing frome her BMW Mini Cooper and has seen a 53 reg face lift Freelander 1.8 for 6K in a dealers - do they have the good old K series head gasket problems or have they had the gasket upgrade by this time ? any other common issues to look out for ?
Thanks

They were pretty well sorted by then. Do the usual checks and enjoy the car.

There is a 53 plate Freelander for sale privately in Fakenham, Norfolk. Up for £3K

I was going to ask if that was good value but, I think you have answered that question! smile

Whats the spec on it?

Should have badges under the indicators on the wings, spec from lowest to highest is E,S,SE,HSE
Some special run out models are Xei, freestyle and adventurer. These are based on the S but with different wheels and other add ons.

Check the tailgate seal works, if it doesnt then the lockable boot hatch will have water in it. Change the rubber seals should fix it.
Make sure its got 4x4 drive, some have had the propshaft removed as the rear diff has packed in.

The 1.8 will realistically do mid 20s to low 30s for mpg in general driving.

Good luck smile
