Hi all,

I have owned a classic RR before but would like another one.

There seems to be hardly any decent examples around at the moment. I am ideally after a sub 100k miles car with full history with a genuinely solid body and chassis. Ideally Ardennes (sp?) green with LPG

Are there any companies that search out these cars for you for a fee? A bit like with rare sports cars.

Thats the trouble. There are not many nice genuine clean examples around. There are more than a fair share of worn out old rotten crap around.

Just a tip. Buy the monthly addition of Classic and Sports car mag. There are some very nice examples that come up for sale on a regular basis from some of the specialist exotic dealers.

I have seen a few being sold by some of them. And i have to say that these will be the best you find. But expect to pay. I would reckon from £6-13,000. Depending on year age and condition. Thats what i would pay if i wanted the best. Remember these have now reached collectable status. And nice clean genuine examples will only rise in value.

Have a look here(I have no connection to the company and have not seen the car)

Seems pretty much what you are looking for.

That one looks lovely but a bit overpriced imho. I think I may know of one that may be suitable, I will update as and when I know more!

I would have thought that once you get over 10k a later soft dash car would be a better buy. I told my Dad that he never should have sold his 65k mile final edition Rangie Classic [number 24 of 25]. I think that he got 10k for it...

I must admit I am not a fan of the 'soft dash' edition. I think it does not look as good as the original.

They've become the 'in car' around London this year and there is a dealer in Kensigton Mews who allways has a couple. And charges accordingly.

I know it's not factory original, but I spotted this Litchfield 5 litre supercharged Classic yesterday and thought it looked a lot of fun.

I love em, especially without all the bolt on cr@p everyone put on them in the 80's. Anyone driven one? wondered what theyre like on long motorway journeys etc.

Ive had three. And all were very nice and comfortable for long journeys. The best of the bunch for comfort and refinement was the L.S.E i had.

Mark,

Was the LSE that much different to drive? There are a few nice ones around but I am put off them by the extra rear leg room that I would never use (extra weight to haul around)

I’m currently running an unmodified ’93 3.9 Vogue with 150k on the clock and a ’94 Overfinch with every conceivable extra and 15K on the clock.

Both are superb for long and short journeys, the open road or the London commute. One is slightly faster than the other and goes around corners a little quicker wink

I can't even remember how long they've had that! Either they've taken it back a few times or or someone there just can't bear to part with it.

Interesting tho!

There were a few differences i found on the LSE to be better over the normal 3.9. The engine was better for a start. The 4.2 John Eales developed engine was more torquier than the 3.9. And i found effortless during mid range over taking. The ride also was better over the 3.9. The air suspension worked a treat. I know by this time the 3.9 was availabele with air. But with the extra weight and wheelbase of the LSE,the ride just seemed more compliant.

Lets not forget, that the LSE was infact the Test bed for the P38.And it was the flagship. Hence everything had to be right.

Sadly it wasnt. The biggest issue for me,and many others, was regular failures of the airsuspension. Great when it was working. But a bd when it werent.

Price wise. The LSE will always be priced lower than a normal wheel base Vogue,as a lot of people did not warm to the extra lenth in the LSE.But for me it was the best RR classic produced. There is one other classic i would like. That is rarer than most. And thats the normal Wheelbase 4.2 Autobiography. Only a handful were built. Somewhere in the region of 25-30. Altogh a bespoke vehicle. I only ever saw them in green with a cream interior with green piping. One came up for sale a few years back. I went along with a fistful of pound notes. Only to be beaten by about 15 minutes. I was so gutted. Never seen another one advertised since.

This is the Overfinch: http://www.bramleyweb.co.uk/carsales/details/Land%...

Brilliant car, rather perversely, I have more affection for the somewhat more tired, standard 3.9 biggrin

Oh wow you bought that one! I enquired about it but thought the price was a tad optimistic. Cracking looking car.
