Range Rover Supercharged
Discussion
i'm gutted, as i've just spent 3 months looking for the perfect low mileage 2005 Silver RR S/C and now that i've bought it, it appears i have certain "HMRC Issues" that need to be settled
long story, but i need to downgrade considerably and was wondering the best route to go :-
1) advertise on PH ?
2) advertise on Autotrader ?
3) sell to trader or part ex for cheaper car ?
Obviously 1 & 2 is the usual route, but i've never traded in a car before so am i going to get creamed if i try to trade in for a cheaper car - do dealers actually do this, or do they only accept a trade in against a more expensive car ???
haven't advertised my car yet - PM if you want first shout
thanks.

Sorry to hear about your situation. You can also join the, we hate HMRC fan club!
I've sold 2 cars on PH, one on the same day I advertised it - it's free and you don't tend to get timewasters. So suggest you stick an Ad on straight away so it's working for you.
Range Rover S/C are in demand at the moment. Where the prices have dropped so low, there is a hortage (or at least there was about 3/4 months ago) of good cars. Therefore I would imagine that the garage would chop it in for a cheaper car with a cash difference, however you are always going to get nailed on a p/ex.
Also why not give a L/R dealer a call to get a price on them buying outright. Whne I bought the dealer had no cars to my spec, in fact that had no second hand supercharged available at all, so had to proactive hunt one.
Worth a try
Good luck with the sale

It all depends on how much you need to realise for your car.
Private sale will net you the most but again it depends on how much you paid for the car in the first place.
Most dealers will downtrade but dont expect any stonking deals unless they already have a buyer for your car in mind.
Whats the spec/mileage and how much would you be looking for it?

Prof! Good advert.
I bought my low mileage 2005 RR S/C last Oct and prices/availability of good examples have firmed and are hard to come by, so if you can find the right private buyer you should be able to get a fair price.
PH and Autotrader have always worked well for me. PH for the specialists and Autotrader for the masses.
Good luck.

hi- thanks for all the advice
I'll take pics at the weekend and post ad on PH to gauge interest.
The car is an immaculate late 2005 example in silver with black leather with cream inserts and has only done 33k miles, so I was considering advertising at £26,550
what do you think ??
I bought mine 11/05 20k miles from a main dealer for £ last Oct but asking prices have firmed - I'm unsure what they are selling for though!I'll take pics at the weekend and post ad on PH to gauge interest.

Take a look at Saxtons and the LR main dealer prices and price accordingly. Does yours have any LR warranty remaining? This will affect the comparison.
I'd have thought that a serious private buyer would spend £24k-£25k for a good 2005 RR S/C example so your asking price seems about right.

Good to hear you completed the deal. Have you gone down the LPG route yet? Mine is now fully sorted.
Just joined up and mighty impressed with the amount of info on here and classified section looks great too.
I’ve got a RR supercharged and have been researching an lpg conversion, but not sure who to go to.
Anybody used RPI engineering in Norfolk ?? – they tell me they’ve done a few supercharged cars both full fat and sport.
I’ve heard that there may be issues with valve recession on the 4.2 supercharged once converted is this true, and will I still be able to have my car serviced by land rover, or won’t they want to know ??
Assuming Land Rover won’t entertain extending the warranty on an LPG car, has anybody had experience of Warranty Direct – I’m going to call them later to ask if they will cover LPG ??
cheers

I suggest you speak to JE Engineering before deciding whether to go down the LPG route. There are lots of LPG fitters out there that claim to have converted a RR or RRS Supercharged and it’s easy to fit the kit but very difficult to set up the engine management software properly. JE have recently finished setting mine up and have made a fantastic job but not without a steep learning curve and several months of commitment after the kit was fitted. You’re welcome to PM me for more info. Anybody used RPI engineering in Norfolk ?? – they tell me they’ve done a few supercharged cars both full fat and sport.

Reading the get-out clauses the after market warranties (LR and others) are probably a waste of money once an LPG kit has been fitted. I've decided to save the £1200+ pa on warranty and concentrate on a good level of maintenance and servicing.
Just had a look at the RPi Engineering site and they state a preference towards Rover V8's for LPG conversion. I'm sure you know that the RR S/C has the Jag 4.2 which is a completely different beast.
