Time has come to change my (now quite elderly) X5 that I use for moving kids, garden rubbish, furniture etc around at the weekends. I fancy a change from a X5 and have always wanted a Range Rover. I'd want to spend around £30k and would be looking at main dealer RR or Sport supercharged cars. The only thing that really puts me off is the tales of reliability issues. It would be a 3rd card for us and tends only to get used at weekends and would thus drive me mad if I had to invest much time in takng it for repair etc.

Am I likely to have reliability with say a 3 year old, 35,000 mile car from a main dealer? Is the full fat car any better or worse than the Sport in this regard?

Firstly, get the Range Rover Supercharged, not the Sport. Why? Because it is the best. For £30k you should get a nice one. If you buy from a main dealer, it will be sold with an MOT, fully serviced plus 12 mnths full LR warranty. Make sure the car looks as though it has had a v easy life, no seat/steering wheel waer, stone chips etc. and you should be just fine. Main issues with these cars can be front diffs, but no sorted with a full factory recall and electrical woes, but TBH I don't think you'll have an issues. If the car is a dud, you have the full confidence of the 30 day exchange policy. From my LR experience, I have had 3 nearly new and 1 brand new LR product in the past 5 years and never once gad a issue of any sort aside a battery change. Great cars, ignore the hype and buy a great vehicle.

PS There is a nice black RR Supercharged at Stratston of Burnham. £28k Ithink it was.

Go & drive both.......!
I wanted the full fat, but hated the drive.... I prefer the full fats looks & image over the sport, but much prefered the nimble drive

I bought a 2005 RR Sport (the 2.7TD) just over a year ago and I've got to say I've been really impressed with the reliability. I've had nothing go wrong and I use it every day.
