Hi there.
Apart from the expense of fitting a disc handbrake, which I can't justify at the moment, has anyone got any ideas how I can stop my Defended 200TDi hand brake from completely failing every time I go off-roading?! It's a pain in the aris as to clean it out requires the complete removal of the rear propshaft before the drum can be removed. Is ther any way of keeping the water and mud out, and is it possible to fit the drum from a Series 3 which unbolts and slides over the prop?
Thanks in anticipation!!

For what its worth, my series 3 transfer brake was bloody useless so I replaced it with an X-brake. I have now got a 200tdi 90 and havent had any issues with its brake except it has just started to bind and on closer examination the shoes are worn. I try not to use it for a few days after heavy off-roading to avoid it getting stuck on. **note to self, stop being lazy and replace the shoes!**

I was thinking about an X-Brake but can't justify the £200-ish for it.
It just seems to attract water and mud like a magnet!
I do try to use the car a couple of days after off roading to make sure everything dries out.
The Series Landy's are much easier as the drum can be removed and slid down the prop!!

Thanks for that - I will give that a go. It does seem to last a couple of play days before packing up - and wading seems to effect everything from the handbrake to the starter solonoid! The handbrake packed up half way thro' the MOT last time which was a bit embarrassing - LOL!!

I have a more pressing issue now - I managed to get a stick through the side wall on one of my Kumho MTs and now find they are obsolete, so it looks like I'm going to have to but an axle set!! Boo hoo!!

I've tried - not any cheaper than anywhere else though!

Get some of those Recip Trials, I need a test-dummy to let me know what they're like! wink
