RR Classic Tidy Up
Discussion
Hi,
I've had my 95 RR Classic for a couple of years now and still love it. Unfortunately though, as a result of being generally used as a daily driver plus abused on the weekend lugging DIY stuff about it could do with a tidy up.
It's due a service in Jan so I'll get the other work done then. Below is my list so far of things it needs to (in my eyes) get back to looking its best.
Has anyone got any tips / tricks with any of the below that will either save me money, make my life easier or mean that I don't have to repair it again soon?
Full service (replace brake pads/discs etc as advised)
Repair / Replace exhaust (Blowing quite badly now and any replacement must allow more of that V8 rumble to be subtly heard)
Repair / treat / paint any rusted areas (odd bits and bobs but hopefully nothing serious)
New top tailgate (possibly bottom tailgate also as they're both not great)
Random dents fixing and painting
Repair rear wiper assembly (conked out ages ago and never bothered me but I do want it fully operational)
Leather clean and treat
Full polish and wax
Any advice on bringing it back to it's best much appreciated!

Some pics would help. You can get top tail gates in alloy. Go for a SS,Janspeed,or Rimmer rear sports box. I would advise against getting the whole system,as they can be a pain after a while due to the fact they drone.
Rear wiper motor is located under the rear headlining. About £30-£40 from a breakers. And a job you can easily do yourself.

I'll try and get some pics shortly as I want to do a before and after job. Rear wiper motor is located under the rear headlining. About £30-£40 from a breakers. And a job you can easily do yourself.
Alloy tail gate is a deffo I think. Thanks for the heads up on the exhaust - I don't want any drone as afterall, Range Rovers are supposed to be refined!
Thanks also for the rear wipre motor info - I might actually try that myself

I've been steadily doing similar with my '94 LSE, although still have a few things left that I want to do.
I put a complete Janspeed stainless sports exhaust system on mine, and it does sound very good although isn't wafty quiet. It does however help drown out the wind noise at speed
I also had an aluminium rear upper tailgate fitted by the garage who look after it, and they said it was a pig of a job as they had to reuse some parts from the old one which were a pain to remove, but it fits well, and looks good.
I've also fitted Bilstein dampers, and replaced the 4 air springs, and touch wood have not had a single problem since.
I'd also like to get an annoying air leak at the top of the windscreen fixed, and also the headlining replaced plus tidy up the wheels and a few scratches/dents on the bodywork so will keep an eye on this thread to see how you get on!

Carried out very similar tarting up to one of mine last year.
I would advise that when you replace the upper tailgate to try your best to re-use the original lock. My other one has two keys and quite frankly it is a real pain in the arse. Worth getting new rods etc as they are often a bit too buggered to work well in a new frame.
You can't get new lower tailgates any longer, even though some sites still advertise them. I spent a long time trying to find a decent one at a breakers and no joy. In the end (as they rot around the plate lights and the bottom edge) I had a colleague cut out the rotten metal, replace with new and respray. It's a very good job and was cheaper than a new replacement anyway.
