Did anyone catch this Sundays top gear? They had the new range rover and were showing the crazy screen, where you can look from one side and its showing the nav screen while the other side is showing a movie!!!! That is some crazy technology!!! Are land rover the first people to bring this out? Never seen anything like this!

Also in the new Jag XJ, being as they're one and the same company. Tech has been around for a while, was announced as appearing in the XJ/RR about 18 months ago.

I'll bet they'll be cheap to replace in 10 years when they all go tits up.

I thought the external cameras were a bit weird - I expected they would be at the corners pointing sideways so you could see if was OK to pull out of blind junctions, or reverse out of parking spaces.

I wonder at what point cars will need co-drivers? Apparently Shell is demanding that sat-nav screens on its fleet cars (14,000 of them) are disabled on the move.

The forward facing cams can be set for viewing out of blind junctions, similarly rears.
They are quite adjustable, don't think they were demonstrated all that well by JC - more going for laughs.

Rear camera also has projected lines superimposed on the screen, for predicting your 'path' for reversing and for lining up a trailer etc.

Pretty good system in the flesh.

Don't know about 10 years? whistle

Wouldn't be surprised if LR are replacing a fair few of these under warranty.

Wonder if the viewing angle is materially affected by a Drivers quality of vision. E.g. if below 20/20 etc would you be catching the DVD instead of the Sat Nav? laugh

Could imagine the discussions in the Dealers now - could be the next 'Characteristic' of the car.

Is it dealer adjustment on the cameras as the cameras seem to be fixed? Tried pulling out at a blind junction in my RRS with cameras and they look more straight ahead than left or right.

I've sat in one and the cameras are quite handy if - say - you're pulling out of a drive and have zero visibility of the road. The cameras point at 90 degrees either side of the vehicle at the front and back. As for the screen, it's very impressive and you cannot see the passenger's view at all.

Might just have been my interpretation, had a demo at dealers. Zooming in and out, the range obviously increased, I thought the viewing angle changed as well.
This was on a FFRR, thought the RRS would be the same.
