Discovery 2005 service history advice.....
Discussion
Disco's are very good car's however, they are complex. I would not be happy unless the car has been serviced by a LR dealer or known specialist. Try posting on www.disco3.co.uk for further advice.
TBH most of the service jobs are just filter and fluid changes.
A Ford Dealer near me is LR approved as well, so is not uncommon. Their technicians will be LR trained as per a LR Dealer, their labour rates would probably be lower. That's probably why the previous owner has used them.
Best way to check is go onto LR website and look for approved service agents, enter the postcode/area of the Ford Dealer and see if they come up as an approved agent.
If it's a LR approved car now then you will have the yrs warranty, then just keep your eye out for anything and get it looked at straight away.
To qualify as a LR Approved car they do have to go all through the car so SHOULD be ok.

It's been through the multi-point check and out of 3 previous services, 2 were at ford - Insp1 & Oil. I've checked online but not listed as a LR agent, although they may have been in the past. I'll give them and LR a call tomorrow to see if they can shed some light. Car is in good nick and seems mechanically fine to the eye and drive but will check to be sure A Ford Dealer near me is LR approved as well, so is not uncommon. As it's a complex car I'm more cautious buying this....scotia_steve74 said:

As it's a complex car I'm more cautious buying this....Had my RRS for two years now, as you no doubt know they are the same car under the skin.
They are complex cars but saying that the multpoint check would include full diagnostics which will flag any sensor - of which there are hundreds - showing a failing component.
Common problems are the air suspension, Electronic Park Brake getting out of adjustment, EGR valves sticking, Turbos can go.
Mine is going in this week for a new drivers window motor, new air compressor, and of all things a new audio unit - the multi cd has packed in.
I have also had a new transmission ecu, and a loadspace cover, all under warranty.
As another poster has said, www.disco3.co.uk is a great site.
It's not this reg is it SF55YPG, black SE, an owner on D3.co.uk in Scotland has traded it in after having some problems.
Would like to think the suppling dealer has picked up any problems before marketing it, but the yr warranty will give you enough time to pick up anything that has slipped through.
Do your checks and if you happy, go for it and enjoy. Very nice drive in the D3, if I needed 7 seats would have one instead of the RRS tomorrow.
The handbrake will squeal a bit when out of alignment, they are prone to go out alot.
It is supposed to only need adjusting at service time, but I have had mine done about 3 times each year. Dealers charge for it being adjusted, I've been lucky in that mine have done foc when they've had it looking for another fault.
If you do buy it, get them to readjust before you pick it up.
Approved cars are more expensive but the car should be better prepped and the warranty is comprehensive. Also you can stamp your feet somewhat and get some goodwill from LR, if needed.
Due to bad customer experience, I have had my first service paid for by my supplying dealer, and second by LR, saved me a grand.
Good Luck

As it's a LR Approved car, the Goodwill side from LR will start from the fact you bought the car from a LR Dealer as part of the approved scheme. As opposed to you buying from an Indy Dealer.
If it meets the LR Approved criteria, the previous history is irrelevant from your point of view. AS LR have approved it as meeting their Used standard of car, in other words the Service History should be acceptable.
Steering knocks and shimmys are common on the RRS and D3. There are different types, with different cases and some that LR deems a characteristic of the car.
Best to look on D3.co.uk for steering knock, there is a lot of information there. Some could be concerning, others not to worry about.
Could be that the bushes need changing, or the wheels could be out of alignment, or need balancing. Supplying Dealer should fix before delivery anyway.
One big factor is wheels size, if on 19's or 20's they can create vibration through the st wheel.
LR Ownership is somewhat involving in a different way to other marques.

It must be like my BMW R1200GS ownership - very complicated but great bit of kit with the occasional issue!
I spoke with Land Rover Customer Service. They say you can get your vehicle serviced anywhere and a Ford dealer would be fine as they would likely have the same systems. It's quite common they say so that's put my mind at ease.
So, I'm going to look at a couple of vehicles around my price range and go for it!

Nothing in life is worthwhile without some effort. Wrinkles indicate you've enjoyed life!I haven't had that many issues with mine, but more than any other car I've had, but I have been very fussy with it and the dealer. All noises have been investigated due to LR's reputation, not many have been problems. Similar noises on other cars I'd ignore.
Will get another no question, if you go in with your eyes open you might actually be surprised at how little problems you end up with.
Good Luck
