Dear All,
After several years of deliberation, we have just bought a brand new Defender 90 xs..its now one whole week old!
And other than the slightly damp rear carpet and fan belt replacement, we totally love it and wish we had bought one years ago!

Anyway... the problem that I'm pi**ed about is the paint on the seam between the sloping roof panel and the flat roof panel has cracked on the radius edge and I can see the sealer.
We can't decide what to do...we are well within our rights to ask for a new vehicle...should I just accept it and see what the dealer offers, get a touch up kit a good fine brush and run it back in ( I don't think you could tell as it is right in the seam ). What we don't want to do is to have to spray anything!

Is this a common fault?
And we would appreciate any advice anyone has!

Many thanks!

Its a common problem on a Defender with a few years under its belt. But a vehicle that is new, then i would be taking it back to the dealers!.

Definately back to Dealers and look to reject, sealent joints are notorious for rust forming.

At worst get it repaired by them, and look for a bloody big goodwill gesture - couple of services would be what I would be looking at.

The LR corrosion warranty is 6yrs so make sure the repair is noted, if you go down this route.

REJECT REJECT, we had something similar with one of ours at the start at the time they said dont worry covered by warranty.

well three years late the paint got worse and worse and they wriggled ( even though we had bought 3 defenders and a discover) stating that it had paint defects from the inside out therefore wasnt covered by the paintwork warranty... have a very very close look at the warranty.

In the end we paid for a respray and sold the last of our newish defenders.

A lot of the new Defenders that I have sold had this problem. I pointed it out to every client and either got it remedied or they lived with it.

On my one I went along with a big black marker and coloured it in as it was pissing me off so much......but was out of warranty so did it on the cheap as I hate painting cars unless I have to!

P.S. Get it re-mapped straight away to make it even more fun!
