je engineering ZULU
Discussion
Oh yes. I was at Land Rover Monthly's Fastest Land Rover event at Bruntingthorpe a month or two ago as a guest of JE (they did a stage 2 on my Puma Defender) and they fielded a Zulu.
What a car! Totally awesome. Looks great, sounds great. It's bloody expensive though @ £35k conversion cost (i.e. plus the car) but as with the chip, it's engineered correctly and to last : this is no quick shove-in job, JE are a quality outfit for sure.
Are you thinking about one? I understand they are developing a non-supercharged version but I don't know what this will cost.

Hi there. I have the LRM times to send you but the forum tells me that I can't e-mail anyone for the first 24 hours of membership so I'll guess we'll have to wait a few hours.
Surprisingly, the Zulu didn't win the event and, even more surprisingly, a heavily modified TD5 90 did. The JE guys reckoned that the Zulu wasn't revving much beyond 5,000 revs which limited it and the car that did win was the car brought by the sponsors of the event who no doubt had a chance to practice the courses many times before JE turned up.
The Zulu they brought was an SVX conversion i.e. a convertible one for the 60th anniversary (just in case you're not familiar with an SVX). It was in black with black wheels (non standard) and looked and sounded just wonderful. I mean, really tremendous. I think you'd certainly have the fastest Land Rover, easily, but I'm not sure if you'd be the best in off road scenarios but then that may not be important to you. The car they brought was a customer's car. I can tell you in e-mail who the car belonged to but the JE guys probably wouldn't take kindly for me doing it in open forum.
I strongly recommend that you give JE a call if you're thinking of one. The MD is a guy called Jon Douglas.
I'd love to receive details of the non-supercharged one. Thanks. How much does this cost? I wonder if it's really any better than a Rover V8 dropped in?
I'll e-mail you later on.

was the winning vehicle on the cayenne tyres ? i think i may have heard something about that . Surprisingly, the Zulu didn't win the event and, even more surprisingly, a heavily modified TD5 90 did. I had a test drive in the black JE Zulu 110 that appears in most of the adverts. Really nice people, particularly Jon and the car had a gearbox fault at the time so it's not a completely fair judgement, but to be completely honest it seemed very expensive for what it was and the general finish.
I'm sure a UK customer car would be better quality (particularly without all the garish leather and trimmings that had been specced by the prospective owner), but I still doubt it would compare to a G55 as the literature often suggests.
I just got the feeling you'd fork out a lot of money for a full turn-key conversion, and end up doing the development work on it to sort out the bugs for the first few months of ownership. Fine if that's what you expect, and you'll probably end up with a great car if you're prepared for it, but I can't imagine many people who would buy a G55 are likely to put up with it.
If you're serious about it and love your Landys then I strongly advise you contact them and make the trip over to have a go, but unfortunately it wasn't for us.
