Defender Prices
Discussion
Hi, after a 20 minute journey taking 4 hours last night and then having to leave the car and walk I'm toying with the idea of getting a cheap Defender.
How much are half decent, reliable ones? Could you get something for around 3/4K ish or would it end up being a money pit and more hassle than it was worth? It would only be for occassional use so would probably only do a few thousand miles a year.
Thanks.

Defenders hold their prices very well so at that budget probably looking at an older, lower end one which may need some love.
Better bet would be a Disco. Just as capable in the snow and more user friendly but don't hold their prices as well. Cheap to run the main problem being rust on the body.
You could get a 10 year old TD5 D2 ES for that budget with leather and all the toys.

What are Disco 2's and P38 Rangies like for reliability/running costs?
The Defender appealed as they're pretty basic/less to go wrong etc. It wouldn't get a lot of use so not worth me spending a fortune on running it.
Used to have a Classic RR and loved that but probably hard to find a nice one for a decent price nowadays?

Its a no brainer.Out of the three i would go for a Defender. I have had all three. And if its reliability you want then the Defender it has to be.No silly electronics to confuse matters.I have a V8 90 at the moment, and yes the heaters do work in the winter. The Defender appealed as they're pretty basic/less to go wrong etc. It wouldn't get a lot of use so not worth me spending a fortune on running it.
