Sorted it, took it out with a PC plugged into the car, no fault codes were being read so decided to do a few other measurements like fuel flow rate, inlet manifold temt and pressure, just to see and noticed a stutter on full load at higher revs, spanked it for a bit including some 0-60 time runs using the PC to measure and all is now well.
I think she was fed up with pottering round in the snow and needed an Italian Tune Up.
Just if any one is interested it did 0-60 in 6.75 seconds with half a tank of fuel and 2 X 15 stone blokes in the car, not bad.

Err... is that according to PocketDyno on your iPhone by any chance?If so, my 4.2 S/C Sport did 0-60 in just under 6 seconds, my 3.5 tonne motorhome in 16 seconds and my 911 turbo did 0-100 in less than 7 seconds...

No, this was taken from the OBD2 diagnostics, it used the cars ABS sensors to measure when the wheels started turning and the speed reading from the speedo pick up, clock used is that of the PC.
Test was done by winding up the torque converter by flooring theh throttle and holding the car on the brakes then release breaks after about 3-5 sec only didi two runs as it does heat the gearbox up which was the whole point, first run 6.75sec with the second 6.9sec. Car has done about 50K miles so is nicely run in.
Gearbox now working as it should and not getting stuck in 4th as it was.
