I bought an old Volvo estate to drive my Doberman pup & the mountain bikes around and do the general workhorse stuff whenever it comes up. The problem is, I've ended up using it as my daily driver! I wanted to protect my other cars from getting too many miles or public car park damage/weathering etc. I thought it would be a good time to upgrade the old Volvo to something a bit nicer and thought that a Range Rover Sport would fit the bill nicely.

Can you please tell me which would be a better daily driver - the TDV6 or the SC Petrol? If the petrol is better is the 4.2 as good as the 4.4? Is there anything I need to watch out for when test driving? It wont get any more than 8-10k miles a year put on it and I don't really mind taxes and fuel costs. Are they reliable and generally headache free to maintain? Any problems with them that I need to be aware of? Any particular models that you'd recommend over others? Sorry for the 101 questions!

I'm open to any advice at all as this marque is totally new to me. Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

How much you looking to spend? I've had one for 4 years without problems (TDV6).

The 4.2 engine is S/C, the 4.4 is not & less powerful. The V8 diesel is an excellent engine.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll check that board & arrange some test drives of all variants. Didn't even think of the V8 Diesel... top advice.

Budget's between £25-30k ish. But obviously, the best/newest I can get at the most bargain price is the ideal.... wink

I'm on my second 2.7Tdi HSE and find it very good for almost everything.

It's not a fast car but it's nippy enough for most stuff and drives really well.

I'm just about to change my two-year old car and am really not sure that I'd wish to go back to any other 5 seater.

Just had my 2.7td v6 for a month and absolutely love it... It's an HSE with with full video system for the kids.

Waiting for some 20" wheels to turn up but have not got stuck in the white stuff yet with the Goodyear F1's on, yet!!

I did not want Drug dealer black so opted for Rimini Red..... Previously owned a 2000 Defender 110 Crewcab, 2001 Rangerover P38 and 1993 Rangerover Classic LSE. This one is fantastic and a little better on fuel than the TDV8...

Am also chewing over a used RRS at the moment, but the trade seem to having a fair bit of success thus are holding onto the newer/lower-mileage examples and only trading on the higher mileage stuff. Prices seem to be rising too, which I guess is to be expected given the time of year/weather conditions. Will have another scout around tomorrow to see what I can find. Would be interested to know what the really sought after extras are upon resale - rear entertainment? active cruise?
