Looking to buy a Defender. Could I have some advice please?
Discussion
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Defender from a local LR specialist. Unfortunately I nothing at all about them. He has in stock a 2003 110 county, dealers description as follows:
2003 03 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 2.5 COUNTY STATION WAGON 9 SEATER 5DR
PRICE - £12,475
The ultimate 4 X 4 traction control ABS and diff lock, Finished in Zambizi Silver with a clean tecno grey interior. 71520 careful miles with service history. Spec includes cold climate pack, heated seats, heated windscreen, central locking, electric windows, boost alloys, alarm and imobiliser and stereo.
........................
Had a test drive in deep snow and was extremely impressed especially when it went up a 1 in 4 snow covered road without any difficulty at all.
Is that a fair price for that particular spec or is he trying to nail my hat on? Is the electronic traction control any good or is it just something else to go wrong?
Thanks in advance
Dave

Defenders are awesome, but I'd still be inclined to stay well clear of a TD5 powered one.
If you can find a good one (I've seen a couple up for sale in Octane magazine recently) the price would be circa £10k. So, more to spend on a couple of nice mods, if you choose to.
The 300Tdi is less troublesome and more robust. Do a search on here about
300Tdi V TD5 as there have been a few threads on this very topic.
I've been out and about in mine today - all across the Cambrian Mountains and through two to four foot snow drifts, across very icy patches and up and down very steep slopes. Not an issue all day, nor since I bought it.
Have a chat to Andy Sargent of AJS 4X4 - he's a LR guru and can give more info if need be. (btw - not connected to AJS 4X4 - just a happy customer)
