Hmm sure I read about a car for sale recently that had a ticking sound - was it on autotrader or ebay?

After having a nasty accident (gashed hand) I made a cradle that fitted onto my 3 ton trolley jack to remove the transfer case on its own. I've now bought a proper transmission jack and have extended my cradle to I can remove the box and xter in one go:

You cant see, but my the car has been jacked up underneath to give clearance to get the transmission out - plus the big wheels help.

The difference between using a trolley jack and a transmission jack is night and day. The tranny jack has castors and a short handle, so you can raise / lower and move it around with ease. They are only about £100

If the car is a runner I would drive it around for a while to determine if it has any other faults before spending any time in it, because sadly most of the old and cheap one do have problems.

Specifically check if the heater o-rings are leaking and if the coolant system is pressurising and slowly loosing coolant which if it is, is likely to be a slipped liner - which is an engine out requiring top hat liners (min £1000)

VXR8 parked up and I've been using the dakar this week. Wished I still had the P38, but I sold it to fund replacing the wife's car. Although I've started looking at them again..

Might see you at a 4x4 meet as well as the monaro...
Great advice but trying to do the job on the cheap side so may have to do it myself, have loads of the right tools.
Thanks again!!
