I have had a few battery issues in my RR Vogue TDV8 ownership and was looking to purchase a starter.

Looking in Halfords the largest one they seem to do is for engines up to 2500CC will that really not start the V8 ?

Anybody have one for their Range Rover and can reccomend what and where, THANKS

Much better than the tat you get in Halfords, I have one and it would start my V8 Chimaera over and over with no sign of weakening.

I bought one of the Halfords jobs. Easily starts my corvette. There has always been a tiny bit of power in the battery though.I.e an interior light will glow very, very dimly.

Just about to buy the one suggested by miniman and then I see Bluethunder using the cheaper halfords one, The description of the Clarkes 4000 is perfect , starts up to 4000cc Diesel engines.

When my car has not started there has been somthing in the battery just not enough to start it and is then often drained quickly after a full charge, This is now my 3rd battery on a car just over 3 years old, I suspect something is running it down that shouldnt be but as Range Rover have said to me there is so much going on in the car that faults are hard to find.

I use one of these to start the disco when it's been stood for a while. Very very useful, although do forget to charge it sometimes. I've never run it down, but I've used it four or five times without charging to start the car without any trouble.

It was recommended to me by my mate who runs a recovery firm. As you can imagine, he uses his jump packs a LOT.

I've got a battery conditioner which cost about £10 (Draper or Machine Mart) and this is simply plugged onto the battery and plugged into the mains if the car is going to be left for a couple of days, or if it discharges its battery. It just gives the battery a gently top-up and prevents it discharging.

The RAC could not turn over my V8 with their starter, with a completely dead battery. The starter gave enough power to unlock the electric ignition lock, which allowed us to put it into neutral and push it out of the garage to be jump-started by his van. A new battery followed.

IMHO, a conditioner on a new battery would be a better bet.

I used one on my RR Classic 4.2 and it worked like a dream. I gave it to my Dad so I can't tell you what the brand is but it's nothing special.

TDV8 Battery problem !!!

I know that one . I have had 2 visits from LRA and one from AA in the last 2 weeks. I was warned that the park heater option makes these cars prone to battery problems. However, under warranty I am expecting a new battery. LRA & AA both diagnosed the battery as being good with their super test equipment, however I have my own test equipment called a key. When I go out in the morning to start the car and it doesnt go, then the battery is failing. Hows that for a bit of Sherlock Holmes work. The car hasnt been left, in fact i got home at 12:30 last night and it wouldn't start at 08:30 this morning. A trip to the dealer I think.

My Halfords one kickstarts my 4.6 easily enough on the odd occasion I've needed it. Maplins were doing theirs for about £30 too which I'm sure will be fine too. Useful things to have around as they've a tyre compressor thingy too.
