Hi all.
I have two faults that are both causing the same issue
the flywheel and flexi plate seem to be out of balance and has caused the crank sensor to fail, with all the associated running problems.
I had a new sensor fitted a month ago and it has started playing up again, also the sensor mounting plate that is pressed into the block looks like its moved nearer to the flexi plate making the threaded rivets touch the prongs when the fly wheel spins,

I have tried to move the mounting plate a little but it wont budge can any one give any good advice??

Thanks

The sensor mounting plate is tig welded to the back of the block in 2 places. It sounds like the fault is with the flywheel/flex plate not the crank sensor. Either could be cracked or warped. If it was loose it would make lots of noise! Have u taken the alloy plate off the bottom of the bell housing section of the block (behind the sump) to further inspect?

thanks for the reply, yes i have taken the plate off and the flywheel does look slightly warped the flex plate is intact but the sensor mount must have cracked on the welds as its definatly move nearer the flexi plate, its difficult to see but it looks like something is catching the prongs as it spins. the end of the sensor is almost touching the flexi plate and the plastic part has a score on it.

Makes two of us with this problem frown
Picked up a non runner from ebay three weeks ago with flex problem, wouldn't start at all!
So changed the plate with second hand one, started no problem smile (great) but one week on after getting on the road and it now misfires and cuts out when slip into drive gear furious
My next step is to check flex plate again with removing plate to see, i changed fuel filter today will try maf tomorrow and i may just try to space crank sensor off/away from flex plate as i'm starting to thing my crank could be moving just that little bit to just touch and mess things up?
I that don't work i'm going to give up and buy something else!!!!
On to all that its give gearbox problem on dash when plays up but i don't think its the gearbox???

Total success, spaced the crank sensor away from flex plate/flywheel, range rover is 100 X better- more powerful and responsive.

Good job!
unfortunatly i have to try an press the sensor mounting plate away from the flex plate with the engine in situ not much room up there!
I'm not able to get to the car till the end of next week so watch this space

Right then i managed to fix the crank sensor position but the car is still missing and now backfiring,
its now running rich so i presume the lambda has failed on one side.
