lift spring change back to std
Discussion
I've just bought a a defender 90 and it has a 2" lift kit fitted with pro comp shocks. I want to take this off as the dog is strugling to jump in the back of the truck. Can I just swap the springs for std ones or do will I have to get new shockers as well? I guess the brake lines will be OK a little longer than required so long as they dont rub.
This all depends on what shocks have been fitted. Many of the ProComps are extended length. I’m not sure what other mods have been performed, but a longer shock should in theory allow more droop.
If you then fit a shorter spring (or stock one) and/or don’t use dislocation cones or some form of spring retainer you then run the risk of the spring falling out of the seat when off road.
So the answer is yes, but you really need to know exactly what parts it’s got fitted at the moment.

Should be no problem, as long as original bump stops are on the vehicle....and not extended ones.
The shockers will just work as normal on a reduced travel.... you may have a tendancy to pop springs out if off roading... but as long as the top and bottom of the springs are attached / bolted to chassis and axle this wont happen.

As standard Land Rover rear springs aren't retained at the top. So it's worth checking. Thanks for the replies fellas, I think the best thing is to swap the shocks, springs and make sure it has normal bump stops in place. Any idea how much that'll cost in parts or where the cheapest place to get them from is. I here good things about DLS in matlock who arent too far away from me.
