Hi, been wondering if anybody can shed some light on this..

Recently bought a 2003 Discovery II 4.0 V8 auto. When the engines been running a while the centre console area around the high/low range and cigarette lighter gets very hot, all the plastics feel hot to touch, too hot to be normal heat transfer from the gearbox i would have thought.

any ideas?

thanks.

Just a thought, but maybe part of the exhaust runs inside the tunnel?

As it's an auto, if the auto box oil was running at high temp you would get the red warning light come up on the dash so I'm guessing it's not the box overheating.

Might there be some heatshields on the transmission tunnel that have gone walkabout?

My tunnel gets warm but it's not excessive.

Not sure where the AC unit is.... but i'll turn it off and see if that helps, good idea! if its not that, and the gearbox shows no warning lights, then i guess some heat shield or something must have effed off somewhere!

cheers guys.
