This morning I found a pool of power steering fluid under the front of my Ninety (old 3.5 engine). Clearly a pipe / seal somewhere has failed and the whole reservoir has leaked out over the last few days. I drove it 50 yards to park it out of the way, and the steering clearly still worked - but just felt heavy. Leaving aside MOT issues, does the p/s failure make it unsafe to drive on the road to get to a mechanic?

Cheers

The pump will fail in pretty short order without any fluid going thru it.

Probably the seal at the bottom of the box (where the drop arm comes out). Try giving everywhere a good clean and see where it starts to leak from. It will be easier to replace the whole box (about £220) which is a fairly easy job to do yourself). I drove mine for some distance without the fluid and I was told that it wouldn't harm the pump running - but if in doubt you could always remove the belt far the time being. Steering will be heavier than a non-PAS vehicle due to the extra gubbins involved but it will still be safe on the road as long as you don't expect to steer round corners too quickly - LOL!
