Servicing - Main dealer or independent?
Discussion
Hi All
My Range Rover TDV6 has now done 45k miles and is due an Inspection 2 service.
Land Rover wants £450 + VAT for the job, my local independent wants £270 + VAT.
I have an extended warranty on the car, and though I haven't checked the small print I am guessing it insists on LR servicing. Though I am not THAT bothered because in my experience LR are quite good at avoiding warranty claims anyway.
I am thinking that the difference in cost would be regained in resale value, however I am likely to be keeping the car for another two years so by the time I sell it it will be approaching six years old, so main dealer vs indie may not make much odds.
What are your thoughts on this one please chaps?

I will be in the market for a 2nd hand 5 year old rangie soon and wouldn't be bothered if it was a recognised independant. My Range Rover TDV6 has now done 45k miles and is due an Inspection 2 service.

Let the Main Dealer decide. Tell them that you have a quote for the same works from an Indy and would they like to match the price or at least compromise to get the work. I have done this and it does happen. Even a compromise is worthwhile. If it has FLRSH to date then I would personally go main dealer as the cost difference would probably be achieved at resale. If you are keeping it for another 3 years then go Indy for the rest of your ownership, but if it is in warranty then make sure the Indy uses genuine parts. The servicing cant invalidate the warranty but pattern parts can.
