Anyone any ideas where to get one of these. The local RR repairer wants £3000 for new or £1800 for recon. Its a 53 reg and my sister is struggling for the funds.

That's not a bad price.

Ask on a dedicated land rover/range rover forum - more chance of a used g'box or a good re-conditioner being recommended. Sometimes a main dealer will say it needs replacing as they don't have the skills to repair it but a repair may well be possible for less than the cost of the g'box alone.

Landrover replaced loads of boxes under warranty at sometimes very low mileages.

Apparantly cars that have been poer chipped suffer more with this failure as the boxes are not up to the additional power.

Despite notice to the contrary these boxes require oil and filter changes at around 50-60k miles to prolong their longevity.

Agree with the above.

GM's service interval on this box is 60k, BMW/LR claim its sealed for life - which ties in nicely with thier warranty period. A change really does do the world of good.

2k for a recon fitted seems to be aout the going rate.

They actually want £500 on top to fit the gearbox.
